

Very interesting article about purple carrots. Saw this line that caught my eye. Kind of a WTF that I didn't expect:
Modern agriculture has led to a loss of genetic diversity. According to a Worldwatch Institute report in 1999, less than 20% of the vegetable seeds available at the turn of the last century were commercially grown 100 years later.

I LOVE genetically modified food. I specifically go out of my way to go to the chain supermarket instead of the nearby Whole Foods, because I want the food that is less likely to get me sick, more likely to taste better (which means I'll eat more of it), and probably cheaper.
